Community Schools Supports Imperial County Families this Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving break approaches, many of us are gearing up to help prepare or help eat a delicious feast. However, not everyone is in the same fortunate position.

Imperial County has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. With that being said many of our students and families do not have the extra funds to purchase a turkey this Thanksgiving.

In recognition of this, Community Schools Engagement Coordinator Jose Martinez has been working diligently to find a way to giveback to the ECIS community.

With the help of local agency, Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers, and the Agua Caliente Band of Tribal Indians, Jose was able to bring 10 turkeys to Imperial County families!

The food distribution was not open to the public and was only open to the agencies that reached out. "I am super excited because this work took a lot of sacrifice and time, and I can’t wait to see their smiles," said Jose.

You can feel the warmth and happiness radiate through the smiles in these photos. What a wonderful blessing this must have been for our students and families.

Thank you to Jose for coordinating this entire process and all of the hard work you do for our students. It truly is the season of giving and what a wonderful way to kick off the Thanksgiving Break.
