SIATech North County Independent Study Celebrates Their First Graduate

On September 8, 2015, SIATech North County Independent Study’s first graduate, Christopher Newton, presented his final senior project portfolio. The event was exceptional and intimate as in attendance were his parents that inspired him to finish high school.

Also in attendance was a fellow classmate and teachers, Ms. April and Ms. Niky. The SIATech Central Office staff, which have assisted Chris when covering the North County Independent Study classrooms, were in attendance as well: Mr. Greg, Learning Design Coordinator; Ms. Hessom, Executive Director of Education Services; and Ms. Pearl, Data and Accountability Coordinator.  Pictured above, from left to right: Ms. April, Mrs. Newton, Mr. Newton, and Chris Newton.

The presentation featured a movie Chris produced and starred in with a team of classmates called Acer, coined from the computer technology brand label. The characters in the movie were met with adversity when their mother lost her job. Facing an ethical dilemma to steal from their teacher and computers from the classroom to make ends meet, the students were caught stealing.

After Chris’ presentation, Lead Teacher, Ms. April awarded a certificate of completion and spoke on Chris’ diligence in completing his work.  Mr. Newton is a leader and friend to all his classmates. His intelligence and persistence has been an encouragement to all. After graduation, Mr. Newton plans on attending Foothill College and has the opportunity to participate in the winter commencement activities.
