Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia provided the May 29th, 2015 El Centro Commencement Address. He spoke admiringly of the hard work that SIATech students had undertaken to reengage in high school and earn their diplomas. He spoke of the hard work that his parents had undertaken and the pride that they had in his being the first of his family to attend college.
Assemblyman Garcia took time to deliver a State Assembly Certificate of Recognition to each of the SIATech graduates as he took pictures with our students and congratulated them for their persistence and courage. He is committed to bringing jobs and education to his community. Garcia is the author of legislation to expand the impact of the Workforce Investment Boards and One-Stop Centers like the ones SIATech partners with. He serves as Chairman of the Assembly Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy. His leadership of that Committee as a new legislator shows the respect and confidence his colleagues have for him. He also serves as a member of the Latino Caucus and of the Select Committee on Boys and Men of Color.
Assembly Member Garcia represents the 56th Assembly District which includes both our schools here in El Centro and in Indio. He grew up here in the Coachella Valley and is raising his family here. He has served as Council Member and Mayor of Coachella. After graduation from Coachella Valley High School, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from UC Riverside, earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California, and completed a program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
We appreciate the encouragement he provided to our students and the work he does to serve reengaged youth in the Coachella Valley.
