Mentor teachers play a significant role in guiding students toward graduation and post-graduation goals, serving as the main point of contact and support throughout the academic journey. The role of mentors is essential for keeping both students and staff informed and addressing concerns and barriers to success in a timely manner.
The mentorship relationship begins with an initial meeting and continues through the transition phase. Mentor meetings are central to students' success at SIATech. In addition to providing advice and resources, mentors stress the importance of scheduling ongoing weekly and monthly sessions to maintain a structured and proactive approach to mentorship.
Mentor teachers use dashboards within Edgenuity and PowerSchool, as well as site-based Google Drives, to organize information about students' coursework performance and overall progress toward graduation. Mentor teachers will schedule and conduct weekly and monthly meetings to support student understanding of goal progress.
There are weekly and monthly meetings between mentor teacher and student. Weekly meetings are shorter and concentrate on reviewing student progress, support, and strengthening the mentor-mentee relationship. This should include Edgenuity progress, Accelerated Learning Sessions, CTE progress, attendance and communication. Monthly meetings are longer and involve reviewing and revising goals as well as engaging in data chats on academic results. Mentors provide support for CTE, certifications, work-based learning, and pathway progress, while also monitoring and supporting the development of College/Career Readiness.
