On Saturday, March 1, 2025, El Centro Independent Study (ECIS) had a Family Art Day. Community Schools Engagement Coordinator, Mr. Martinez connected with Unwind and Design Creative Studio, an organization that teaches art skills to individuals and “provides them with appropriate training and tools they need to succeed,” within the workshops they provide. The studio partners with Imperial County and supports students with special needs and 5150.
Students and their families participated in an acrylic art class. The instructors led the class step by step and each participant walked away with their own piece of artwork. "Students, their families, and staff all came together to celebrate creativity," said ECIS Principal, Ms. Sykora.
Individuals were able to artistically express themselves and bond over shared experiences. Based on the photos it looks like everyone enjoyed themselves, working side by side to create their own memorable masterpiece.
"The event truly highlighted the spirit of collaboration and community, leaving everyone with fond memories and beautiful artworks to cherish," said Sykora.
Mr. Martinez said he plans to continue to build a stronger partnership with the studio as they also travel to other cities such as Indio, San Diego, and Los Angeles. “I want to make sure we provide similar opportunities to all of our sites,” said Martinez.
