The evening's theme was "Promoting Empathy and Mindfulness through Art." This was a free professional development opportunity for educators. Attendees were able to participate in gallery sessions designed to foster empathy, and explore a lesson plan aimed at encouraging mindfulness through art.
The Museum's new exhibition Modeling for the Masses: Sculptural Ideals in 19th-Century America was open for viewing. There were delicious appetizers, non-alcoholic wine, great company, and guided tours.
As NCIS plans for Spring activities and field trips, staff plan to use the Timken's gift of free bus transportation to the Timken for their classrooms. Notable is that the Timken is right next door to The San Diego Museum of Art, which would provide additional opportunities for students to view the art, architecture, and cultural learning at Balboa Park.
In addition, the team entered the lottery for a Timken sponsored art class for our students in-person at NCIS! The team also brought back lesson plans that will be useful in the classroom.
