SIATech North County Independent Study Serves Up Culinary Fun

On Tuesday, February 25, Chef Oscar, the proprietor of Sak Pasé Cocina & Churrería in Tijuana joined North County Independent Study (NCIS), for a few hours to teach students how to cook.

NCIS first met Chef Oscar a year ago when he was teaching at the California Culinary Institute (CCAI) in San Diego. 6 unnamed I

The day's adventure included a fresh delivery of produce from +Box, North County Food Bank (including super bonus of ground turkey and chicken breasts), Vista Teen Outreach, and a full house of NCIS students ready and willing to bring the heat and eat.

Chef Oscar created a meal using only in-house culinary equipment and food available to students. This was a great teaching moment for the students as it showed them how to effectively use their resources around them.

With Chef Oscar’s guidance, the students began creating a decadent meal. This process implemented SIATech's Portrait of a Graduate by practicing independence, critical & creative thinking, curiosity, collaboration and communication. The end results were fresh salad, spaghetti, and spaghetti sauce as well as overnight oats for the morning!
