SIATech Perris CTE Mrs. Kay Selflessly Supports Students and Staff

We are happy to announce that our latest staff spotlight nominee is SIATech Perris CTE Counselor, Mrs. Kay. She was nominated because she is “an excellent team player and wonderful pillar to our students and staff,” said Perris ITA Mrs. Allen.

Mrs. Kay has been with SIATech for six years. She is responsible for counseling students, setting up referrals for mental health and assisting with CTE curriculum. In addition she prepares students for their future by helping them enroll in college or trade. She also helps students with FAFSA applications and runs the student council.

Mrs. Kay mentioned that some of her favorite SIATech memories are from holiday parties she’s planned with the student council. Colleague Tiffany Allen added that Mrs.Kay is “students’ go to for counseling and party planning! She runs our student council for Youhour and yoga and mindfulness.”

Mrs. Kay earned her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSU Long Beach, and masters in School Counseling for ages 0-21 from National University. She shared that she has been in the education field for half of her life. She began her journey as an elementary teacher and four years later made the transition to counseling. “I quickly learned that I wanted to stay in education, but not in the classroom. Working with students on their mental health is so much more rewarding. I wish I had a counselor at school that could have helped me with daily struggles,” said Kay.

It is evident that Mrs. Kay makes a difference in the lives of students as she works to support them throughout their journey. “Mrs. Kay makes a positive impact on SIATech students and staff by simply being present and making others around her happy and welcomed to be here,” said Allen.

Not only does Mrs. Kay support the students but she also works diligently to assist her fellow colleagues. “Mrs. Kay is always willing to help and be a valuable team player. I can always count on her when I have questions about our site as a new employee, she doesn’t hesitate to step in and help support no questions asked,” said Allen.

When Mrs. Kay is not busy serving the student body; she enjoys writing poetry!

Mrs. Kay finds true joy in her career and working with her students. “Each student that takes baby steps toward their life-long goals is a reward for me. I love engaging with the students and seeing them succeed and move on to the next chapter in their life,” said Kay.

Congratulations to Mrs. Kay on her nomination! Thank you for encouraging our students to be the best version of themselves!
