Please join us in congratulating our newest staff spotlight nominee, SIATech Perris Principal Ms. Vladi Chavez.
Chavez was nominated for her extraordinary leadership: “She goes above and beyond for our site. Her influential aura has contributed to the success of our students and the growth of our team,” said Student Engagement Specialist Ms. Allen.
Chavez shared that her fifth grade teacher inspired her to pursue the career she has today. Because of that inspiration, she has been in the education industry for 27 years. Her experience has led her to make many impactful contributions to SIATech Perris over the past year. When Chavez arrived at Perris she was met with various challenges such as enrollment struggles, however, as her team members expressed she is a leader and she used those skills to help her site persevere.
Some of the ways she did this was by building a positive student environment, partnering with local high schools, and engaging with local businesses and nonprofit organizations. “She goes above and beyond to support the needs of our students and staff. She works weekly with food banks to ensure our students are not food insecure,” said Allen.
Communication and community are very important to Chavez which is why she made it a point to get to know every staff member as well as every student. She shared that she builds personal relationships with those at her site and uses “The Whole Community Approach” to build a thriving school through community.
Together with the help of site staff, Perris offers unique opportunities for students to get involved and feel excited to come to school. Some offerings include you-hour, spirit week, potlucks, games and other fun activities.
“It is obvious to the students that our staff wants to be here - they make it fun but still get work done. Our students want to come to school and do their 20 hours willingly and sometimes even more.” said Chavez.
One fun fact about Chavez is that she can always find the cheapest flights. So, be sure to ask her about her travel tips!
In a short amount of time, Chavez has made a large impact at the Perris site as it is evident that she cares. “She shows support in every aspect whether it's offering guidance to our students, empowering teachers and support staff, assisting in our You-hour Clubs activities, participating in site events or expanding our student learning experiences, she shows up,” said Allen.
