SIATech South Bay Welcomes Spring by Attending Various VAPA Experiences

As Spring approaches South Bay Independent Study students and staff look forward to the various Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) experiences they will be invited to by San Diego professional symphony, opera, theatre, and cinema.

In the month of March they were invited to attend four incredible VAPA experiences!

The first event took place on Friday, March 7th, as they visited the newly renovated Jacobs Music Center and listened to the beautiful sounds of the Symphonic Dances of Rachmaninoff.

On Wednesday, March 19th, students, parents, and staff enjoyed Richard Strauss' exuberant Salomé, adapted from Oscar Wilde's famous play. “Our night at the opera was complete with amazing orchestra seats that allowed us to be one with the arias,” said SBIS Mentor Teacher, Ms. Ramirez.

The following day on Thursday, March 20th, SBIS had the privilege to watch La Jolla Playhouse's new musical, 3 Summers of Lincoln. “This gripping new musical tells the inspirational story of one of the most important friendships in our nation’s history, and a divided country coming together." Students were able to connect their newfound knowledge to their current history courses and see it play into action in the most riveting way.

The next morning, on Friday, March 21st, the month of melodies and melodramas came to a close by attending the Latino Film Festival and watching the breathtaking, independent film, Olivia y las nubes.

“All have been unforgettable experiences for our students at South Bay,” said Ramirez.
