“I'm excited to build strong connections with the SIATech students and staff. There is some incredible, innovative, and thoughtful work taking place here and that is so exciting. I hope to Amplify the effort and vision that is already serving students while bringing some thought-provoking and inspiring new layers to our ecosystem including emerging technologies and instructional practices that center student strengths, culture, and well-being.”
Ms. Brown holds bachelors' degrees in Music as well as Education from Arizona State University. In addition, Ms. Brown has earned a Master of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in English (Literature and Film Studies) from National University. Ms. Brown shared that she is also a “Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer, a BRISK AI professional, a founding member of the Human Intelligence Movement, and the outgoing President of San Diego CUE, where she was recently awarded the prestigious honor of Gold Disk recipient in 2022.”
With 20 years of experience working in the K-12 school and higher education systems Ms. Brown has made many accomplishments in the realm of education. Some of her recent projects include “Parent Engagement Series, which included evenings designed to increase parent Engagement, Awareness, and Access.” In addition, she worked with the “Center for Inclusive Technology in Education where she and her team collaborated with students, families, and colleagues to craft the first-ever National Assistive Technology Framework.” She is currently “leveraging emerging technology to support educator wellness and stave off burnout and attrition.”
Prior to coming to SIATech Ms. Brown was a Director of Instructional Technology, Instructional Leadership Team member, a School Site Administrator, an Instructional Coach (Digital and Curriculum integration), and a classroom teacher.
In her new position Ms. Brown shared the exciting things she hopes to accomplish, “my team and I will oversee all things related to curriculum and instructional practices for our SIATech family. This will include supporting, integrating, improving, and creating innovative training solutions for everything from Edgenuity to EDGE, ALS, and even how AI will affect our teaching and learning.”
When Ms. Brown is not busy improving the future of education she is lending a hand to the canine community as she has raised four service dogs for Canine Companions. She also enjoys taking her dogs out on adventures in San Diego. While she is a big fan of dogs she shared that she is not fond of grasshoppers and referred to them as an “immediate no.”
Ms. Brown went on to say that she is quite invested in certain fanbases, “A former film student and lifelong Jung/Campbell/Lucas fangirl, I love anything having to do with cinema and tv. New releases, blockbusters, sequels, prequels, season premieres are big events in our house,” said Brown.
As a parting farewell, Ms. Brown left us with a few more fun facts and great conversation starters.
“I'm a huge fan of the Oxford comma, and visit London frequently. Maybe we could chat about London, Star Wars, Dogs, McDonald's, snacks in general, and have a little treat.”
