On Thursday, November 7, 2024, students from North County Independent Study (NCIS) attended the “Trades Day” event at Palomar College, led by staff members Tom Healy and Flor Delgado. The event provided students with hands-on exposure to various skilled trades and potential career paths. SIATech South Bay bid farewell to October and welcomed autumn with a slew of activities during their Spirit Week. Each day of Spirit Week had a fun theme. On Monday November 4, SIATech Downtown LA (LAIS) had a beautiful and productive day at the FAFSA and college application event. Graduate Michelle F. worked with Los Angeles City College (LACC) to complete her application and enroll in the college. Earlier this month, SIATech Indio, Moreno Valley, and Perris took a field trip to the Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Farm. This was a Work Based Learning opportunity for students to observe a seasonal small business in operation. The SIATech North County Staff, joined by a representative from their San Diego County teammates at South Bay, gathered for an “Open House for Educators” hosted by the Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. This past month the SIATech Downtown LA (LAIS) site celebrated graduate Geovanni B. for his great achievement. Students, staff and family cheered on Geovanni as he entered the classroom in a cap and gown. They then continued the celebration by sharing a meal together and engaging in great conversation. On October 31, SIATech El Centro (ECIS) celebrated Halloween and Día de Los Muertos. Students engaged in fun by playing games and participating in a costume contest. On Thursday, October 31 SIATech North County (NCIS) hosted a Back-to-School Community Barbeque. Mentor Teacher Lisa Nichols and Graduate Capri took on the responsibility of grilling and served up some delicious burgers and hot dogs. NCIS Mentor Teacher Ms. Roletti connected with Kelsey Waters from California Manners, an organization dedicated to teaching individuals about etiquette. On Thursday, October 24th, SIATech South Bay Mentor Teachers Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Lewis attended a career fair at the Double Tree in Mission Valley. There they shared information about SIATech’s innovative education programs for students that are available at the South Bay, North County, and San Diego sites. On Thursday, October 17 at 10:17 a.m. SIATech participated in The Great California Shake Out. The purpose is to give schools the opportunity practices safety drills and ensure they are prepared in case there is an earthquake. SIATech Sacramento Job Corps students are actively working to destigmatize Mental Health on campus and within their communities. Thank you to Principal Terena Small for sharing this news.
