The Community Writers Group of Los Angeles (CWGLA) is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2014 by Elise Woodson. This is an invitation for High School Juniors and Seniors who are students of color from low- to moderate-income (low- moderate income preferred, but not mandatory) communities to participate in the CWGLA “We See You” (WSY) Creative Writing Contest.
Three (3) scholarships -- DEADLINE 5/20/21 @11:59PM PST:
1st Place: $1000
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $500
ALL FINALISTS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE CWGLA SNAPSHOTS: STUDENT EDITION
CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:
· 11TH or 12TH Grade Students of Color
· Signed Parental and/or Guardian Consent
· Bio of 100 words or less
· Headshot / Selfie - Have fun! NO PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS
· Access to a computer and/or laptop
· Internet access for zoom or telephone conference
· Transcript + 3.0 GPA OR, If GPA below 3.0, two written letters of recommendation from a current teacher or counselor + transcript.

CONTEST GUIDELINES:
1. Select 2 different topics from attached list
2. Write 2 Personal Narratives (minimum of 1500 words each) using 2 different topics; OR
3. Write 1 Personal Narrative (minimum of 1500 words); and 1 Spoken Word piece (of any length) using 2 different topics on attached list
4. All work must be ORIGINAL – DO NOT SUBMIT COLLEGE ESSAYS (see example attached). Personal Narratives should be real life experiences.
5. All submissions must be received by May 20, 2021 at 11:59PM.
6. Clarity of content, originality and grammar matter!
