SIATech San Jose high school participated in several exciting events and field trips that help invigorate student interest in career pathways. Groups of San Jose students went to BD Bioscience, Fetch Robotics, and Manufacturing Week 2019. Gratitude to SIATech staff members Charneece Fraticelli and Ignacio Mireles, who coordinated the field trip events, provided event information, and the pictures.
The first of three activities during October for SIATech San Jose students was Manufacturing Week 2019. During the week of October 7, SIATech students involved in Career and College pathways at SJJC, participated in Manufacturing Week 2019 which was sponsored by Manufacture San Jose. https://mfgsj.org/ . Manufacture San Jose hosted the event to promote manufacturing as a career pathway as well as highlight all of the opportunities the sector provides. Seventeen SIATech SJJC students participated in two days of manufacturing industry partner visits which was great exposure to the numerous opportunities in advanced manufacturing in the region.
Another group of students in Health pathways visited BD Bioscience, a global medical technology company that is advancing the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics, and the delivery of care. BD leads in patient and healthcare worker safety and the technologies that enable medical research and clinical laboratories. The company provides innovative solutions that help advance medical research and genomics, enhance the diagnosis of infectious disease and cancer, improve medication management, promote infection prevention, equip surgical and interventional procedures and support the management of diabetes. In the BD Biosciences workshop, eight SIATech San Jose students toured the facilities and observed how the employees worked with technological medical equipment inside a laboratory. Students were informed on how the company operates and what they truly do in the medical field.
Finally, nine SIATech San Jose students visited Fetch Robotics. Fetch Robotics “provides the market’s only cloud-driven Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) solution that addresses material handling and data collection for warehousing and intralogistics environments. Fetch Robotics’ AMRs reduce costs and improve throughput, efficiency, and productivity, while working alongside people.”
In the Fetch Robotics workshop, students toured the facilities and observed how the AMR equipment is designed, built, and used inside a warehouse. The tour guide explained in detail how the AMRs came to be by explaining more in-depth the history and mission of the company.
It is invigorating for staff and students to attend these events and see the numerous exciting opportunities for our students in these growing industries.
