SIATech South Bay Students Gain Hands-On Career Experience

This month, students from SIATech South Bay High School in Chula Vista were able to take an excursion to the Center for Employment Training (CET). There they received information and training sessions on various types of career choices. According to CET’s website they are dedicated “to help those who want a better life get the skills needed for meaningful work.”

Students that are a part of the Health Career Pathway were able to gain insight on the duties and responsibilities of being a medical assistant. The Health Career Pathway is a Career Technical Education (CTE) program at SIATech schools. Other notable career programs students had access to learning more about were welding and construction. CET training programs are designed to “teach marketable skills to people of all educational levels and backgrounds, even if there are barriers to overcome.”

SIATech South Bay High School Students Gain Hands-On Career ExperienceSIATech's South Bay CTE Counselor Jovita Cerda stated that students left the center feeling encouraged and eager to start their careers. With one student stating, “I see myself going here, can we start now?”  Ms. Cerda mentioned that students enjoyed the training and found it intriguing “to see how the teachers are hands-on and make sure their students understand what they are learning.”

The CET allowed students to gain detailed information and exposure on how certain careers operate. This is just one example of how SIATech utilizes resources to ensure students are prepared for both the educational and professional world. For more information on CET and their programs you can visit their website at www.cetweb.edu.

Thank you to SBIS CTE Counselor Jovita Cerda for sharing this field trip update!
