Congratulations to Ms. Roletti who was awarded the Staff Spotlight for her work as a Mentor Teacher at SIATech North County High School in Oceanside (NCIS).
Ms. Roletti was nominated because she is “focused on learning and understands how data provides evidence and tells a story about students and their growth and progress. Ms. Roletti has been exceptional in planning and delivery of Accelerated Learning Sessions - focusing consistently on reading, writing, speaking, and listening through a variety of approaches,” said NCIS Principal Mr. Lewis.
Ms. Roletti has been with SIATech High Schools for two years, and as a Mentor Teacher she works to help guide students through their high school journey and helps prepare them for life after graduation.
“I mainly focus on literacy, as well as lead a number of projects at NCIS. I implemented our site’s student of the month program, as well as manage our food and hygiene products pantry. I also act as our liaison between local college and career organizations and schedule guest speakers, as well as field trips for our students,” said Ms. Roletti.
Ms. Roletti grew up in the Oceanside area near NCIS and attended Vista High School. She received her bachelor's with Honors in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Sustainability Studies from UC Santa Cruz. “I volunteered with elementary environmental education programs throughout college and loved it so much that I decided to pursue teaching after I graduated. I received both my multiple and single-subject geosciences teaching credentials from CSULA,” said Ms. Roletti.
After graduating Ms. Roletti made the decision to move abroad to Southern Thailand. There she taught science for a year at an elementary school in rural Thailand. ”It was the best experience I’ve ever had. After that, I followed my passion for teaching underprivileged communities and taught at an elementary school for Somali refugees in City Heights in San Diego. I then came to SIATech two years ago and love the community of students that I now have the privilege of serving,” she said.
Ms. Roletti shared that she has always loved volunteering with children which is what ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in teaching. She went on to express that she found her passion for serving underprivileged communities through all of the opportunities she has experienced in education. "I am most proud of the person who I have become today. I had a similar upbringing to many of our students at SIATech and I feel proud that I am able to serve as a role model for someone who has used their challenges in life to become the best person they can be,” said Ms. Roletti.
NCIS Principal Mr. Lewis shared that Ms. Roletti has great ideas, and that through her work NCIS was able to add a bi-weekly fresh bread service for students. He also stated is focused on her students' challenges and growth: “Ms. Roletti is a fantastic contributor to the health and vitality of our school culture and community taking on responsibility for our food pantry and functioning as our outreach specialist resulting in several exceptional guest presenters to NCIS. Ms. Roletti has a high ceiling and I expect to see and support her continued growth as a professional educator and support provider,” said Mr. Lewis.
Ms. Roletti shared that her favorite thing about working at SIATech is building relationships with students and “seeing how those relationships inspire them to change and succeed is the most rewarding feeling to see our students excel through their classes and make it to graduation.”
Congratulations to Ms. Roletti on this recognition! And, thank you for your innovative ideas and commitment to SIATech students' growth!
