Trauma
How do you know if you have experienced trauma? How do you know what impact it has on your brain, body, and spirit? How do you know if you need help or where to find it?
Do you struggle with regulating your emotions, do you struggle with having a sense of safety, do you feel restless or always on edge, do you thoughts seem like they race and it hard to shut them off, do you have difficulty with trust/attachment, and/or do you feel like you are in survival mode waiting for something terrible to happen?
These are just some of the examples that trauma can play a role in your life? It may also cause physical symptoms that you do not realize are causes of stress related to your trauma such as headaches, stomachs, difficulty sleeping, or disordered eating.
The important thing is talk to someone and get help or get help for someone you care about.
Talk to a trusted person and reach out!
What is Trauma?
Trauma is the body and brain's reaction to a stressful event or situation. Experiencing a traumatic event can harm a person's sense of safety, sense of self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. Initial reactions to trauma can include exhaustion, confusion, sadness, anxiety, agitation, numbness, dissociation, confusion, physical arousal, and blunted affect.
Trauma can make you more vulnerable to developing mental health problems. It can also directly cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some people misuse alcohol, drugs, or self-harm to cope with difficult memories and emotions. Depending on how you're affected, trauma may cause difficulties in your daily life.
